Alpine rhododendron in rains

Shennongjia—the "Roof of Central China"—possesses a beauty and a romance entirely its own: the beauty of the alpine rhododendron. From late April to early May each year, Shennongjia National Park offers the perfect setting to witness a veritable sea of these alpine blooms. Blanketing the mountainsides and valleys in an unbroken expanse, the spectacle is truly magnificent.

Unlike their low-altitude counterparts, alpine rhododendrons are coolly elegant and proud. Though they lack flamboyant attire, they draw their strength from the vastness of the mountains and ravines; they embody the nobility, steadfastness, and extraordinary grace befitting a true "Queen of the High Mountains."
