The conservation objects of Shennongjia National Park are of great research value as they are rare and typical at home and abroad. To protect the genetic diversity of biological species, the integrity of ecosystems, and study the vulnerability of natural succession, scientific approaches are adopted in conservation, research, and utilization.
Shennongjia National Park has established basic resource databases based on 13 resource survey reports that conclude a comprehensive survey of background resources, a biodiversity survey and cataloging, and a census of the Golden Snub-nosed Monkey populations. The four databases specialize in professional literature, natural resources, environmental monitoring, and physical specimens, in order to continuously improve the Park's all-factor monitoring system and scientific research support capabilities.
So far, Shennongjia National Park has led or participated in more than 10 research programs including the National Science and Technology Support Program, the "963" program, and a number of national major special programs. Also, it has established partnerships with more than 40 research institutes and universities in China, such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University and Peking University.
