A Combination of Online and Offline Approaches to Popular Science Education

On May 10, 2022, the nature education website and App of Shennongjia National Park and the "Popular Science Education" WeChat Applet were officially launched. The answers to the mysteries of Shennongjia National Park will be available at the click of a finger.

The official launch of the nature education website, App and WeChat Applet is another initiative of Shennongjia National Park following the opening of the offline digital popular science education centers in August 2021. Featuring typical landscapes, rare plants and animals, folk culture and other unique contents in the park, the platform showcases all-round nature science education and popularization information of Shennongjia National Park, as well as guides primary and secondary school students and the public to participate in through various terminals.

 

Users can select the categories they are interested in to view the popular science content, with introductions, AR models and VR panoramas, and voice interpretations of important geological sites, representative animals and plants, etc. 

In recent years, Shennongjia National Park has made efforts to optimize the facilities, forms, resources, contents and mechanism of science popularization. Through live-action photography, 3D modeling, customized voice interpretation, science interpretation QR codes, online nature education platform and offline digitalized science museums, etc., it has built a modern science popularization and education system with an integration of online and offline approaches and the main display forms such as AR, VR and other new technologies, as well as a multi-angle, multi-connotation, multi-element and multi-dimensional natural science popularization platform and ecological civilization education base. The constructions have further improved the popular science education capacity of Shennongjia National Park, providing the public with a science space with rich content and various forms of experience, while popularizing scientific knowledge and displaying park characteristics in a vivid manner.

This platform is another window to disseminate the concept of national park to the public, which further realizes the goal of making Shennongjia National Park a national nature education classroom and will drive more people to pay attention to and participate in the work of popular science education.
