The Swallow Cave, located near Tianmenya, is one of the highest (at an altitude of 2,340m) horizontal karst caves and the oldest horizontal karst cave in Shennongjia area. An amazing thing here is that perching in this cave is a species of Himalayan Swiftlet whose habits and characteristics such as food-hunting, nest-building. etc. are similar to those of modern sea swallows. Hundreds upon hundreds of swiftlets are dwelling here in groups and their traces may be found within a reach of 200m far from the mouth of the karst cave.
Situated in Taping Village, Hongping Town of Shennongjia Forestry District, Shanbao Cave consists, from top to bottom, of four halls. It has been proved to be a cave boasting the most varied and colorful landscapes among the known karst caves in Shennongjia area.
