Eumeces elegans, a reptile in the genus Eumeces of family Scincidae, is endemic to China. The slender blue tail has a metallic luster and is highly recognizable. It inhabits low mountain forests and under rocks along mountain roads south of the Yangtze River, preferring dry and warmer sunny slopes. It preys on locusts, bag worms, pill bugs and coleopterans, among which pests account for about 46% of its diet.
