The Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) is a 55cm long wading bird, weighing about 1kg, similar in size to the domestic duck, and is the ancestor of the domestic duck. The male has a yellow-green beak, orange-yellow feet, and glowing green head and neck, with a distinctive white collar ring on the neck.
