Rock squirrel (Sciurotamias davidianus) of the genus Sciurotamias, family Sciuridae, is a small mammal endemic to China. It prefers to eat oily nuts such as pine nuts and walnuts, and has a habit of storing nuts in tree holes, etc. A rock squirrel may have multiple storage sites. Many gymnosperms in mountainous areas benefit from the squirrels to spread to new areas.
