The continuous days of sharp temperature drop and snowfall have covered Shennongjia in a silver blanket, while also posing a severe test for the wild animals here. On November 19, an egret injured in the wind and snow, received a warm rescue by the joint efforts of tourists, police and staff from the Shennongjia National Park returned to nature successfully the next day.
At 2:47 p.m. on October 24, Li Ping, a part-time ranger from Qingfeng Village in Muyu Town, was making his patrol when he noticed something unusual among the shrubs — a patch of grass trembling oddly. Approaching cautiously, he discovered a bird with a long pointed beak and dark brown plumage lying weakly on the ground. It tried to flap its wings but could not lift itself, its eyes filled with fear and helplessness.
Recently, a thrilling wildlife rescue took place at the Dajiuhu Scenic Area in Shennongjia, Hubei Province. A Chinese goral (Naemorhedus griseus)—a Class II nationally protected endangered wild animal—became stranded on a narrow ledge of a steep cliff near the Dajiuhu Tourist Service Center during its search for food. It was trapped for an entire day and night before being successfully rescued through a joint effort and safely returned to the wild.
On March 10, the Pingqian Management and Conservation Center rescued a Temminck’s Tragopan (Tragopan temminckii), also called Crimson-bellied Tragopan, a rare species under second-level State protection.
